The Staten Island Yankees were a minor league baseball team in the New York-Penn League. They were the Short-Season A affiliate of the New York Yankees from 1999 to 2020 and were often called "The Baby Bombers". The Team played their home games at the Richmond County Bank Ballpark located in the Saint George neighborhood of Staten Island, New York from 2001 to 2019 (The 2020 season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.) The Yankees won 6 New York-Penn League championships in 2000, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and 2011. With the restructuring of the Minor Leagues in 2021, and the elimination of the Short-A and Short Season-A levels, in addition the the closing of the New York-Penn League lead to the closing and withdrawal of the team from Staten Island in 2020. The New York Yankees now plan to place a team from the independent Atlantic League at RCB Ballpark by 2022, with the league itself looking for two expansion teams with one planned to be located in Staten Island.
